FRUITING BODIES • audiovisual installation • in duo with Natalia Lis (Samambaia)

Lichens
are a complex life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus and an alga. The dominant partner is the fungus, which gives the lichen the majority of its characteristics, from its thallus shape to its fruiting bodies. A mutualistic relationship.

Lichens occur from sea level to high alpine elevations, in many environmental conditions, and can grow on almost any surface. They come in many colors, sizes, and forms.

Lichens have adapted to survive in some of the most extreme environments on Earth
: arctic tundra, hot dry deserts, rocky coasts, and toxic slag heaps.

Here, "macro" and "micro" do not refer to size, but to the growth form.
