SPHERE 4 is a sci-fi site specific fictional universe, inspired by the environment colapse, the (imaginary of) colonization (of other planets and the research about the landscape of Alentejo (Portugal) and its historical devices for water harvest and distribution.
It departed from Lowell’s mistake - a 19th century astronomer that confused his retina’s blood vessels for a complex network of channels while observing the surface of Mars, and from the discussion around the terraforming of Mars as a way out of a terrestrial environmental collapse, as a way to look at the human presence in the landscape and at the relationship with the present effects of environmental transformations. SPHERE 4 first chapter is a fictional universe created from historical research on the Elvas landscape, focusing on water collection and fixation strategies at different scales, recording and reproducing devices and interventions in the landscape. It took a variety of media, from audiovisual recording, drawing, photography, collection and production of objects, installed in the Paiol da Conceição de Elvas during the A Salto festival.
